The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale opened a $10 million youth facility at Tonalea Middle School on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The Steve & Maria Sanghi Branch gives south Scottsdale families an after-school hub with a full-sized gymnasium, STEAM labs and a dedicated teen center.
The branch, at 6720 E. Continental Drive, spans roughly 27,700 square feet.
That includes 15,460 square feet of renovated school space and a new 12,260-square-foot gymnasium funded by the Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, according to the Scottsdale Independent.
The organization broke ground in late May 2025 and built the branch through a partnership with Scottsdale Unified School District.
Chasse Building Team and Orcutt Winslow led the construction, which the Scottsdale Progress reported at the time as a $15 million project. The Scottsdale Independent described the completed facility at $10 million; the reason for the difference is unclear.
The branch serves youth ages 5 to 18 during after-school hours, school breaks and summer.
According to the BGCS website, amenities include a STEAM Makerspace studio, technology lab, digital media production room, an industrial teaching kitchen, a performing arts space, an art room, a games room and outdoor gathering areas. A separate teen center houses a fitness area, lounge, kitchen and homework space.
Healthy meals and snacks are provided daily, the organization said.
The facility is open after school until 6:30 p.m. for younger members and until 8 p.m. for teens. Bailey Robinson serves as branch director.
Steve Sanghi, chief executive officer of Microchip Technology Inc., and his wife Maria are the branch's namesakes. In a statement at the June 2025 groundbreaking, the couple said they were "honored to support Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale in creating a space that will have a lasting impact on the youth and families of South Scottsdale."
Barry Chasse, founder of Chasse Building Team and a longtime BGCS board member, called the project a personal passion at the groundbreaking. He said the construction would transform existing school space and add the new gymnasium where Tonalea's outdoor basketball courts once stood.
The branch accepts students from surrounding schools, including Yavapai Elementary, Hohokam Elementary, Hirsch Academy, Tonalea Middle School and Coronado High School. Transportation is available from several of those campuses.
Families can reach the branch at (480) 344-5593 or [email protected]. The entrance is off 68th Street.
