Scottsdale will host a free Veterans Day ceremony at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, 7301 E. Indian Bend Road.

Mayor Lisa Borowsky will deliver welcome remarks at the event, which is open to residents, veterans, military families and visitors, according to a city announcement. Pre-ceremony music starts at 2:30 p.m.

The keynote speaker is former Navy SEAL Lt. Rob Sarver, a 2004 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. Sarver served as a surface warfare officer before joining SEAL Team 3, completing seven deployments. Those included three tours supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and two supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. His military honors include the Bronze Star Medal with a combat "V" device.

After leaving the military in 2013, Sarver co-founded The Heroes Journey and serves as its co-CEO.

He speaks to businesses, veterans' groups and government agencies about the transition to civilian life.

The program will also recognize Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) Written Word Contest winner Pippa Arthur for her entry, "Empathy."

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Sgt. Lenny Miller will perform the national anthem. Scottsdale's Veterans Advisory Commission will provide opening and closing remarks.

The ceremony also includes the posting and retirement of the colors and the Pledge of Allegiance.
